The vast majority of physics analyses at the LHC makes use of the concept of jets. Furthermore, algorithms that exploit the substructure of jets in order to disentangle massive boosted particles that decay hadronically from QCD jets have also become mainstream and they are used in a growing number of searches and measurements. In this talk, after reviewing the main ideas behind jet substructure algorithms, I discuss their status in terms of performance and robustness and illustrate how they can be exploited, not only in searches for new physics, but also in order to extract fundamental parameters of the Standard Model.
