We will see some results about planar curves with prescribed curvature. This subject is rooted in the study of the dynamics of a particle in a magnetic field with cylindrical symmetry. We discuss the existence of bounded, non round, possibly closed curves with prescribed radial curvature and “high energy” (joint work with Gabriele Cora). This problem admits also a higher dimensional version, regarding toroidal surfaces in the Euclidean 3-space, with prescribed mean curvature. Also on this subject some recent results (obtained in collaboration with Monica Musso and Alessandro Iacopetti) will be displayed. |
