Immune fitness is one of the research topics under the Health Systems Complexity theme at the Institute for Advanced Study of the University of Amsterdam. Predictive models for various health-related questions examine all aspects from the molecular level all the way up to the healthcare system. The aim is to understand the multiscale and dynamic interplay between the physiological, mental/behavioural, and socio-economic aspects of health and well-being. In this context Dr Emiliano Mancini presents a novel validated ODE model of systemic inflammatory response under clinical treatment conditions. The model was validated against clinical data and parameter identifiability was performed using profile likelihood. The model provides evidence of the existence of an induction mechanism of liver-type tissue non-specific alkaline phosphatase, triggered by the supplementation of AP in patients undergoing cardiac surgery.
